Ingredients you’ll need

Get ready to blend up a treat that tastes just like dessert in a glass! This easy strawberry milkshake recipe is rich, creamy, and loaded with fresh berry flavor. With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a sweet, dreamy shake that hits the spot every time.

Scoops of vanilla ice cream in a bowl near bowls of strawberries, milk, jam, cream cheese and vanilla.
  • Vanilla ice cream: The base of the milkshake that makes it thick, creamy, and sweet.
  • Milk: Helps with blending; use whole milk for extra richness.
  • Fresh or frozen strawberries: Either works! Frozen will make it extra thick and frosty.
  • Cream cheese: Adds that signature cheesecake flavor; make sure it’s softened so it blends smoothly.
  • Vanilla extract: Enhances the sweetness and rounds out the flavor.
  • Strawberry jam: This is optional, but I really love it for an extra punch of strawberry flavor and sweetness.
  • Graham crackers: Blend them in for that “crust” element and a little texture.
  • Toppings: Don’t skip the toppings! They make it fun and give that true strawberry cheesecake vibe. We love to add whipped cream, some fresh strawberries and graham crackers (whole and crumbs).

Recipe variations

  • Instead of cream cheese: You can use mascarpone for a lighter, sweeter twist, or Greek yogurt for a tangier, slightly healthier version.
  • Berry blend: Swap some of the strawberries for raspberries or blueberries for a mixed berry cheesecake flavor.
  • Chocolate: Add a spoonful of chocolate syrup or blend in some chocolate chips for a chocolatey twist.
  • Strawberry ice cream: Swap out the vanilla ice cream for strawberry ice cream to double down on fruity flavor and make it extra pink and creamy.

Helpful tips

Here are my top tips for a delicious milkshake every time!

  • Frozen fruit: Frozen strawberries (or any fruit) are key to getting that extra cold, creamy, and thick milkshake consistency.
  • Adjust thickness: Add more ice cream for a thicker shake or a splash more milk if you prefer it thinner.
  • Chill your glass: Pop your serving glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before pouring in the shake to help it stay cold longer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a high-powered blender?

It helps, especially with frozen fruit or thick shakes, but you can still make it work with a regular blender—just start the blender on low and gradually increase the speed.

Can I add protein?

Absolutely! Toss in a scoop of protein powder or use a high-protein ice cream. You can also add in some Greek yogurt or nut butter for a small boost of protein.

How do I make a dairy-free strawberry milkshake?

Use plant-based milk (like almond, oat, or coconut) and non-dairy ice cream or frozen banana for creaminess.

Instructions

  • Blend ice cream, milk, strawberries, cream cheese, vanilla, graham crackers, and jam (if using) until smooth.
  • Pour into glasses, top with whipped cream and crushed graham crackers. You can even rim the glasses with graham cracker crumbs for a pretty look.
  • Serve with a cute straw and enjoy immediately!

Notes

  • Use premium vanilla ice cream for a creamier, richer texture. If it’s too hard to scoop, let it sit at room temp for 5–10 minutes.
  • Fresh strawberries give a brighter, more natural flavor, but frozen strawberries make the shake colder and thicker. If using frozen, you might need a splash more milk to blend.
  • Instead of cream cheese, you can use mascarpone for a lighter, sweeter twist, or Greek yogurt for a tangier, slightly healthier version.
  • Don’t skip the graham crackers or strawberry jam, they’re key to making the milkshake actually taste like strawberry cheesecake.
