Taco Chili in the Crock Pot
Happy Monday, Friends!! How was your weekend? I hope it was a fun one. Mine was VERY low-key to say the least…. we spent the entire weekend, including Friday, holed up in the house due to the horrible ice storm, here in Texas. No marathon, no gymnastics meet, no manicure, no Christmas show for Madelyn with her teacher, no spending Saturday evening in Dallas….. we had tons of stuff planned for this weekend, but we stayed inside by the fire and pretty much just ate all weekend long. That’s right, I’ve got lots of new recipes to share with you! The one I’m sharing today, Taco Chili, is my favorite. Remember when I said that this chili was my favorite? Well, this taco chili just took the top spot and is like no other chili I’ve ever had…. it turned out to be the best chili. EVER. The refried beans and Contadina tomato sauce are the perfect additions and add a wonderful creaminess that most chili recipes don’t have. All of the ingredients meld together so well and make for a super tasty bowl of slightly spicy delicious chili.
Taco Chili in the Crock Pot
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1 can black beans, 16 oz
- 16 oz can refried black beans, if you can't find refried black beans, just use regular refried beans
- 15 oz can tomato sauce, I use Contadina brand
- 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes, I used Contadina brand
- 4 oz can green chilis
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 pound ground turkey, ground chicken or beef would work too
- Combine onion, black beans, refried beans, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, green chilis, taco seasoning, cumin, and chili powder.
- Stir in ground turkey and cover. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Making this for dinner tomorrow—but substituting a mixture of beans instead of mean to make it vegetarian. So excited to try it!
I made this yesterday. I used ground beef and subbed chili ready tomatoes in place of green chilies. Fabulous! This way tasted like hot dog sauce! I put some in the freezer for chili dogs later! Definitely make this again! Thank you so much!
Crock pot Chili sounds great will make it today. I don’t have re fried beans but I have kidney and butter beans? I’m thinking the black beans and kidney beans will be fine? Like to have your take on this, thanks for your recipe and advice. Pat
I think that would be fabulous! The refried beans just adds thickness.
I live in Belgium and I don’t know what 1 15oz can tomato sauce mains? What is an oz?
It is one regular-sized can of tomato sauce.
Margot, oz means ounce(s). 15 ounces = 425.24 grams : )
First time I have been on this site, having a bad time with getting my message typed. Like being in first typing class.
I am making his tonight let you know tomorrow how we liked it.
Sorry you’re having difficulty typing a message. I’ll check into this. Hope you love the chili as much as I do!
The chili looks so easy AND good! Definitely making this soon. I usually just make regular chili or white chicken chili, so it’ll be nice to switch things up a bit. Thanks for sharing!
It is so good and easy! I hope you love it as much as I do!
This is great! Did you brown the meat first?? Adding this to the crockpot list for next week as my schedule is requiring me to do more crock pot meals these days!! Hope you are warming up over there!
You don’t have to brown the meat first. Just stir it in after all of the other ingredients are combined. My meat cooked up perfectly and wasn’t dry at all…. I used lean turkey. Hope you love it!
Awesome recipe, Kim! I am definitely going to try it out without the meat. I love Mexican flavors :).
And what a bummer about your weekend, but at least it forced you to have a somewhat relaxing weekend which is always nice!
I hope you get a chance to try the chili, I think you will really love it. All of my facebook friends are talking about having cabin fever… I must be a major homebody because I could seriously get used to this. And I wasn’t a bit sad that they announced no school again tomorrow!
Oh my goodness, I’m pinning this recipe immediately. I love chili, I love tacos, I love my slow cooker…so basically, this recipe is just perfect 😉
Hope you love it!
Yikes! I heard about the ice! But sometimes good things come from bad things, like this recipe and I’m sure all of the recipes you’ll be sharing with us over the next few weeks 🙂
You are so right and not only have I had lots of time for recipe creation, but I’ve also had lots of snuggle time with the kiddos!
