Happy weekend to you!! Anyone have any long runs planned for this weekend? I don’t just yet, but once my marathon training plan starts, I’ll be getting in my long runs on Sunday.

When I ran my first marathon, I followed a plan in Runner’s World magazine, the July 2010 issue to be exact. The plan is set up for those who are looking to break 4 hours. My goal was to run the marathon in around or a little over 4 hours. I ran it in 4:15, but I will say it was raining and very cold. Excuses aside; I was satisfied with my time but, of course, I would like to beat this time.

I feel like the plan is challenging, yet very doable and I plan to follow it again this time around. So without further ado, here’s the plan……

There are two things that I may do a little different, though. I feel like I need more hill training and not just at the beginning of the training plan. On some of the easy runs toward the end of the training plan, I will most likely add in some hill repeats. I also plan to not always follow the suggested speed. To run a sub 4 hour marathon, I need to have a pace of 9:09 on marathon day. I think that it would be helpful to run my long runs {18, 20 & 22 miles} closer to the 9:09 pace. I also plan to run my shorter runs at a speedier pace.
